Wei Seng Phua

Wei Seng Phua is a Malaysian-born businessman and high-stakes poker player from Miri, Sarawak. Known by the nickname “Paul” Phua, he built his career in the casino industry, particularly through VIP gaming operations in Macau. Unlike many professional players who started young, Phua discovered Texas Hold’em in his 40s and developed a passion for high-stakes poker.

Phua is best known for co-founding the Triton Poker Series with fellow businessman Richard Yong. Launched in 2016, Triton has become one of poker’s most prestigious high-stakes tournament brands, attracting elite professionals and wealthy recreational players worldwide. Through Triton, Phua has also supported charitable initiatives, helping connect high-stakes poker with philanthropy.

Beyond poker, Phua has been involved in casino operations, hospitality, and property investments, including Montenegro’s Maestral Resort & Casino. His business and gaming experience has helped him build connections across the international poker community. In 2020, he received the Industry Person of the Year award at the Global Poker Awards in recognition of his contributions to poker.

Phua also founded "Paul Phua Poker", an educational platform offering strategy videos, interviews, and insights from leading professionals such as Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan. He has played high-stakes online poker under the confirmed screen name “MalACEsia” and has shared stories about learning poker in Macau, where visiting professionals had to reveal their winning hands. Combining business experience, poker knowledge, and a passion for the game, Phua has become an influential figure in the global high-stakes poker community.
