Magnus Carlsen

Magnus Carlsen is a Norwegian chess grandmaster and one of the most celebrated chess players in history. He earned the grandmaster title at just 13 and held the classical World Chess Championship from 2013 to 2023, winning five world titles. Renowned for his extraordinary strategic thinking, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest chess players of all time.

Beyond chess, Carlsen is an entrepreneur and investor in chess-related technology. He co-founded Play Magnus, a chess education and entertainment company that Chess.com acquired in 2022, and later helped launch Take Take Take and Freestyle Chess. His influence also extends into mainstream culture, from modeling campaigns for G-Star to a place on TIME magazine's 2013 list of the world's 100 most influential people.

Carlsen is also a passionate football fan and recreational poker enthusiast. A lifelong Real Madrid supporter, he briefly topped the global Fantasy Premier League rankings in 2019, outperforming millions of participants. His poker interest grew from online games with friends during the pandemic and eventually led to appearances at live events and on televised cash games, including Hustler Casino Live.

Despite his competitive background, Carlsen treats poker primarily as an intellectual challenge rather than a professional career. He enjoys what chess and poker have in common - strategic decision-making, psychology, and evaluating complex situations. In a 2023 PokerStars interview, he explained that he had no professional ambitions in the game and preferred to learn through experience and discussions with other players.
